GSCC Business Blast 2011 @PCCC.

Posted in Kewl Stuff on April 2nd, 2011 by Stevens DJ Service

On March 31st 2011 the GSCC held the Business Blast at the PCCC. Things started off with speed networking. This is a fast paced 2 minute highlight of your business at a table with 6-9 people. Everyone takes a turn and you will learn a lot of who you can work with to help both of you become more succesful.Next was the VIP lunch. There were three sections and tons of food. If you ate fast, listened well and used your time efficiently, you could make your way to all three sections in the lunch time. Experienced networkers were seen in all three sections making connections.  Some choose to visit  for short spurts with many people, while other go for the long haul with one person. Either way is great it just depends upon your desired effect and topic of subject. Are you a novel, short story or magazine clip? The doors opened to the public and the vendors took position in their booths. People came in steady and consistent for several hours and then a rush hit us. The music had to be turned up to adjust for the increase in overall volume of the event. Some danced to unique requests, while others were seen tapping their feet to the beat. One booth next to me had a very kewl way of wobbling and it turned into a dance routine to the music at one point. Thanks for the entertainment.Once the after party started there was no stopping the fun. Great songs and a change of pace in attitude made this event stand out from the others. Drinks were flowing and the music to more upbeat made area C start jumping. From salsa dancing with Julio to wii Just Dance with a few booths, the crowd started to feel the energy pick up. It was electric and yes we did slide a bit. lol. Overall, this was a great event with professional people and the areas best businesses. I’ve done this event two of the last three and know that with every year it just gets better. See you all next year.Matthew

To comment or not to comment.

Posted in Kewl Stuff on April 1st, 2011 by Stevens DJ Service

Should you comment on a blog or should you send a private email. Being respectful to ones opinion is important. Being honest is a factor but the real question is how it will be perceived by the recipient. If your comments add no value or do no good then a private email is the way to go. If your comment will be negative to the opinion of the blogger, then a private email is correct mode of communication. If you will add value, be supportive or enhance the comment of the blogger then post to your heart’s content. In this crazy world we are all entitled to our own opinion and when you blog you subject yourself to different points of view but this does not give anyone the right to be critical or offensive. If you don’t like the opinion of the author, then don’t read the post. If you come back to read another then you submit to the opinion of the blogger and take it for what it’s worth. Use it to your advantage for what to do or what not to do. Either way you should show respect to the one who took the time to put it out there. It takes integrity to offer an opinion and take constructive criticism back. Constructive criticism is asked for and not forced. Positive feedback is always appreciated but there is s fine line between offering help and being critical. If you know the person it will make it easier to offer what might be taken in a negative way. If you don’t know the author, then go gently into that good night. If you have the credentials to back your expertise in a subject don’t forget to include that in your critique. If you want to gain a friend or help that person be a better person, then stay positive with them until you know them well enough to give them the harsh reality of the faults you see in them. Just remember that they will see faults in you also. Don’t be afraid to throw stones if you don’t live in a glass house. But if you live in a glass house, be prepared to have a few broken windows in return. When commenting on this please leave a valid email for return stones. Lol.

Your business name and where to put it.

Posted in Kewl Stuff on March 27th, 2011 by Stevens DJ Service

Why do you put your business name on the sign out front, the vehicle you operate, the building your occupy and many other ways to display your name? Is it so people can find you when coming to your office? Is it because you drive so much that it’s the best way to be a mobile billboard? Is it because there are so many sign on your street that you need to have the biggest so it can be seen?  Or here’s something to think about, is it because you do such a great job at every thing you do that you are proud to represent your business name anywhere and anytime!!! Why do you put your info at the bottom of each email? I think in the past that a business took pride in their name. Being family owned and operated was something that was admired. In today’s economy being family owned and operated is a target for big corporate business to swoop in and open a discount store next to you and drive you out of business. If you are proud of your business, if you take pride in the job you do, if you are locally, family or small business be proud of what you do and how you do it. Put your name out there and stand up for your reputation. No one can take away your ability to do a good job, but you. Big business will never put all of us out because we care about the quality.  If you do a great job don’t let the big business tell you to not advertise, they do it on everything. When was the last time you bought an item and it didn’t have a name in it. I see Coke, Pepsi, Walmart, McDonalds, Home Depot and Lowes on food, drink, and even lumber. Why does McDonald put their name on the bottom of the Happy Meal box? Why does Lowes need to put their name in each piece of wood. Because they are branding at every second of every day. Why aren’t you? I try to do a great job at every event I perform at. I try to let every one at that event know my name because I do a great job. I don’t hide behind a blank canvas. I must perform better because I’ve put my name on it.Push yourself to do better by being accountable to your reputation.Just my take on it, follow your rep.Matthew StevensStevens DJ Service Inc.

WedPro 2011 trip to Wichita KS.

Posted in Kewl Stuff on March 24th, 2011 by Stevens DJ Service

First I want to thank to thank the Central Kansas chapter of the ADJA for a great conference. First class all the way.  I was surprised that a small group could bring this much organization to such a high level with what appeared to be so little effort. Way to plan it out before hand. The best events are “planned for” really was true for this group and this great event.  The hotel was clean, pleasant and engaging. We could’ve had better service in the lunch and dinner categories but breakfast was top-notch all the way.Andy Ebon is one of the best wedding marketing ,,, no scratch that,,, he is the best wedding marketing person ever. Every time I hear him speak is an eye opening experience. He always has new usable information to share. Yes share. The A in Andy stands for Awesome. Thank you Andy for another great conference. www.weddingmarketing.netAfter careful thought over a great conference, I’ve decided to go to the next one and the next. I will always try to learn more, so that I can help my couples have better events. One little thing will help but many little things will make it great. 2011 will be The Best Wedding Reception Ever for me and my couples. Thank you Peter Merry for educating me for my clients. Click this book link if you want to know more about how to have better receptions.  www.tbwre.comSusan Southerland was energetic, wow was she excited. I got interested just watching her present her material in a way that you had to sit up and follow or miss vital information. I got typing cramp from so many notes. I did learn that there are four types of brides and I want to help three of them. lol. I also figured out that I want to be the type of entertainer that helps, instead of hurts an event. Learning more will help me become better at serving my clients. So, I will try to gather information from the best whenever possible and Susan is one of the best.Rob Johnson from Digi Games presented his first talk and I was blown away because it wasn’t the same thing I’ve heard before. He was fresh and engaged the crowd with tons of questions. Later he brought out the game machine and let a few lucky attendees play a game with him as the host. Totally kewl. I can see so many applications fo this in my market and will start talking to see if I can help make some events even better with this game.Overall my experience with WedPro 2011 was more than I had expected. With my flight cancelled and with no way to get there but drive 9 hours, I was not looking forward to it. I stuck Randy Bartlett’s 1% solution in the DVD player and off I went. This trip was 100% education from door to door. But I’m happy to not be in Kansas anymore.Matthew StevensStevens DJ Service217 585 4008

Net Work Ing.

Posted in Kewl Stuff on March 8th, 2011 by Stevens DJ Service

I have a net, I want to work, and Ing is a funny commercial about investing. How does this all tie together? OK easily but not so easily is the correct response. I want to gather information, people and eventually clients that want to spend money,,,,, with me. I want to work and enjoy what I do for a living. I am a mobile DJ and proud of it. I help couples on thier most important day. The Ing: I help moms and dads get through one of the biggest financial investments. If experience and expertise are important for your princess, if they are something that you already know can’t be redone, if you want the best entertainer, DJ’s, announcers, speakers and coordinator then just call Matthew at 585 4008.When you think of the time, money and stress that comes with planning a wedding. I include the ceremony and reception services in to one easy packet. Detailed and very organized is the name of the game. I want to give you information overload. I want to force you to tell me no. It’s not good to do every single thing you’ve found on the interent. Only do the ones you like and think will work for your crowd. It is important, better it is expected that people have fun at your party. I’ve never had a client ask for a boring time where everyone leaves early and the food is wasted. Everyone wants thier event to be that “one” that you talk about for years. I can help you get your event to that level.People, Music, Lights, Dancing all equal FUN. Stevens DJ Service can make it happen.

Interuptions. Who needs them!

In the middle of the Sara and Jim’s first dance as husband and wife, your phone rings as loud as possible. Everyone stops to look at you. You took away a moment in time that was to be picture perfect.Would you rather have the MC tell everyone to switch thier phones to silent for this moment or just hope that everyone respects the new couple. If you want one song to be picture perfect with all focus on you, let the MC do the job and tell everyone what your wishes are. Who cares if the announcement sounds funny, would you rather have a funny announcement or your first dance ruined and caught on film, because of lack of respect. You tell me how you want it and I’ll make what ever announcements you want. We can’t make them silent the phones but it can’t hurt to try. lol
